Stunning standing peacock vintage Chinese Bakelite Mah Jong set. This has been part of my collection for years. I’m downsizing and have to part with some of my favorites. The tiles in this set have a stunning sheen, paint and are beautiful to look at. The added joker tiles are very close and are not decipherable in play…. I’ve recently added a liner to the lid of the case. I’ve stitched/quilted over some of the designs and added some beads.. Included in this set are 152 Chinese Bakelite tiles – 144 original tiles including 36 dots, 36 craks, 36 bams, 16 winds, 12 dragons and 8 flowers plus 8 tiles with stickers for jokers….. I believe there were extra blanks that I put joker stickers over but it has been so long that I can’t guarantee it. 5 of the flower tiles had joker stickers over them and thus the lighter fronts. This does not affect play. All the tiles are gorgeous. The 5 racks are vintage burgundy swirled catalin with brass coin ends, flippies that are in good working order with some tarnish, though not much for their age. There is a full compliment of vintage smooth coins, around 100 coins total… Also included is a vintage bakelite bettor and dice to complete the set…. The case has typical wear for its age but with the added lining is quite nice. The handle shows some wear and the tray holding the tiles has been repaired…. I’m finding getting photos a challenge. Maybe because my house is bright with natural light. These photos are showing a reflection of me standing above the tiles. The tiles are actually very consistent. The variation of the tiles is reflection of what is overhead and not actually part of the tiles… Same with the racks. I do my best to give pertinent details…… I disclose flaws that are of notice. These tiles are in particularly wonderful condition in terms of sheen and little to no visible signs of wear.
